Restore.bat does not work or throws errors
Posted by on 14 May 2019 17:20

Problem:

When executing the Restore.bat batch file on a Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 computer, there is no output and the archive is not restored.

Background:

The Restore.bat script changes the codepage of the command line to 65001 (UTF-8). Due to a bug in Windows, any successive input and output operation fails.

MailStore needs UTF-8 in this context because folder names in the file Restore.csv could include arbitrary characters.

Workaround:

This workaround only applies when there are only ASCII characters in the folder names of the archive stores. The path or folder name must not contain any spaces.

  • Remove the line CHCP 65001 in Restore.bat and save the file.
  • Open Restore.csv in Notepad and save the file with ANSI set as encoding.
