An email attachment that has been opened in the MailStore Outlook Add-in before is shown as write-protected on subsequent attempts to open it
Posted by on 14 May 2019 13:41

Problem: If you have opened and closed an email attachment in the email preview of the MailStore Outlook Add-in once, attempting to open the same attachment again may result in the attachment being shown as write-protected in its client application (e.g. Excel, Word etc). Only after a restart of Outlook can you open the attachment again normally.

Cause: This behavior results from the MailStore Outlook Add-in's internal IE browser control opening multiple handles on the temporary attachment file and not releasing these handles completely on passing that file to the client application. Unfortunately, the behavior of the IE browser control cannot be influenced by the MailStore Outlook Add-in's code at this point.

Workaround: As a workaround, use the MailStore Outlook Add-in's menu bar to open the email and then open the attachment within Outlook's email dialog.
